That’s right. The ever elusive Pontiac badged Aveo.
They built excitement. Reminds me of the old T1000.

Those things are everywhere in Canada, except it was called the Wave up here.
It succeeded an earlier Canada-only Pontiac subcompact, the Firefly.

Gross. And they left a Toyota dealership plate frame on the rear.
Makes my skin crawl with automotive pet peeves

I’ve driven these in Mexico.
Pontiac G2 as well
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:39 |

The Suzuki Swift+ was even less common. Here in Canada the wave was almost more common than the aveo.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:44 |

Yup...not uncommon up here in Canada at all, in fact, one of my co-workers owns the previous-gen Wave to the one you have in your pic! Hers is a sedan though...
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:45 |

That’s just a sad, sad little car. Bet it’s easy to fix though.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:45 |

Didn’t know they did’t have firefly(s) in the states. Here in Quebec we basically called all geo metro / Suzuki swifts / Chevrolet sprints fireflies
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:47 |
|
It was actually renamed G3 Wave sometime right before Pontiac’s death, along with the Pursuit which became G5 Pursuit.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:47 |

I grew up with everyone calling them Fireflies too, that or calling every car on that platform the Sprint.

Our office Aveo was that color. They all need to meet thermite.

The T1000 was sold in Canada as the Acadian
![]() 09/29/2016 at 22:59 |

I don’t know. I kind of like it. The headlights remind me of the fried egg Porsche ones.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:00 |

Oh, how the mighty have been badge engineered into obsolescence.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:00 |
|
They didn’t sell many G3's down here. I guess you folks liked your Pontiacs. I think the T1000 was more common up north than Chevettes.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:01 |
|
Me too, but I don’t really like the fried egg Porsche lights. Almost looks intentionally similar.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:02 |

Probably was, they’re all gone now though. They were called the Acadian up here.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:03 |

That’s right. What do you have against alphanumerics?
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:04 |
|
It’s a shame they didn’t have time to do an Olds one.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:04 |

Alphanumerics are too American.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:06 |

I’m imagining a big grille and G-body Cutlass taillights. Yeah, I’d drive that.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:07 |

Like this? It’s so weird.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:10 |

That’s like a modern take on the Leata Cabalero, which is totally appropriate.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:11 |
|
Why did Suzuki need one, too?
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:25 |

Brb googling Leata Caballero.
.
.
.
Holy shit! I never thought I’d want a Chevette, but I do now.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:34 |

Right? There’s like one or two left. And, note the correct spelling is with only one “L.”
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:37 |
|
small cars are big in canada, even more so in quebec.
and guess suzuki didn’t want to pay to get the real swift certified for north-america since small cars didn’t sell well in USA.
even though the real swift was a great little car.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:38 |
|
That’s a thing of beauty. I just used the autocorrect spelling to search, wasn’t sure. Wonder if they couldn’t use two L’s because of the El Camino Caballero. They can call it whatever they want, it rules.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:41 |
|
The real Swift was a great little car. We got one version of it that was also sold as a Geo. I had a teacher in college who was from Quebec and you’re right, she drove a Ford Festiva.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:44 |
|
Did you see the pickup?
Brilliant.
I figure you pronounce it with a hard “L,” and not the Spanish way.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:47 |
|
Yes! That’s the one that made up my mind for me before you showed the hatch.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:51 |
|
It sold at one of the auctions a few years ago. I hope it’s getting used.
![]() 09/29/2016 at 23:53 |

I can only imagine how much Coke it could haul in its prime.
![]() 09/30/2016 at 00:06 |
|
Yup, that’s the one - hers is a light blue though (exactly like the car in this pic, minus the bug deflector on the front):
Coincidentally, now that I think of it, another one of my coworkers from the same store owns a facelifted Pontiac Wave sedan in a light green, exactly like this one:
![]() 09/30/2016 at 00:23 |

The geo metro, Suzuki swift , Chevrolet metro and firefly where all swifts.
Just like the geo/Chevrolet/gmc tracker, Asuna / Pontiac sunrunner where all the same truck too. Back in the rebadge hay day.

Capital “C” Coke, or COKE!!! ?
![]() 09/30/2016 at 00:54 |
|
The teal is glorious. I always love that effect of trying to squeeze a particular manufacturer’s signature grille on a badge engineered small car.
![]() 09/30/2016 at 00:57 |
|
We got the previous generation Swift/Cultus/Firefly as the Chevy Sprint I just remembered. Even the Turbo variant.
![]() 09/30/2016 at 00:59 |

COCAINE!!
![]() 09/30/2016 at 04:28 |
|
The more you know... That T1000 looks epic though!!! What was that?
![]() 09/30/2016 at 07:31 |
|
For what it’s worth, I think the metallic teal on the later models like the one in the pic is actually a pretty cool color! :)
![]() 10/01/2016 at 00:12 |
|
That was a Chevette with a Pontiac logo stuck to it. Truly epic. I don’t think they changed anything about it except the badges.
![]() 10/01/2016 at 04:31 |
|
They seem to have put it somewhat up higher on it’s wheels as well.
![]() 10/02/2016 at 02:09 |

Boy, I haven’t seen one in years. I didn’t remember the difference being so dramatic. No wonder those were so popular in Canada.
![]() 10/02/2016 at 04:24 |

Canada always gets the good stuff. Better start moving. They have an excellent movie-business as well.
![]() 10/06/2016 at 03:29 |
|
They even got Ladas, those frozen, sort of Socialist bastards. They do have a pretty thriving movie and t.v. business. It’s cheap to film up there.
![]() 10/06/2016 at 05:13 |
|
Haha, I thought I was just kidding? Do they really have a movie business? I knew some tv series are shot in Canada, even American ones, right? Trees heeft een Canadees was a sentence we heard a lot after ‘44.
![]() 10/08/2016 at 01:49 |
|
Yeah, they do make a lot of movies up there. Some by American studios like with t.v. It’s much cheaper mostly because of taxes. But, now a lot of states offer big tax incentives to the movie studios, so they’ll go to Georgia, or North Carolina instead of Vancouver which is like Hollywood North.
Canadians have trees?
![]() 10/08/2016 at 04:25 |
|
Trees is a Dutch girl-name not that uncommon back then. It is now. Because many Trees ended up living in Canada ;-)
![]() 10/09/2016 at 21:21 |
|
Trees is a first name for girls? Why did they all move to Canada?
![]() 10/10/2016 at 05:53 |
|
Because they all got hooked up to/pregnant by Canadian soldiers...
![]() 10/11/2016 at 00:33 |
|
I see. And, Canadian soldiers go for girls named Trees? And, what are all those Canadian troops doing in the Netherlands anyway? This just keeps getting more and more complicated.
![]() 10/11/2016 at 03:49 |
|
We were liberated mostly by Canadians... The ‘40's were complicated...
![]() 10/11/2016 at 23:43 |
|
Oh, right, you were. That would explain a lot of fair Dutch maidens running away to Canada. I’m still curious why they were all named Trees.
